Troutdale, Oregon

Hello Ms. Ensing's 3rd grade class. Our names are Doss and McKenzieWhite. We received Angel's Flat Stanley. We live in Troutdale, Oregon, a small city that neighbors Multnomah Falls, a waterfall taller than a 60 story building. There are all kinds of fun things for Flat Stanley to do in Oregon like hiking, fishing, hunting, skiing, rafting and many other fun outdoor activities that are available year round. Oregon is known for Mt. Hood where there is a glacier that never fully melts, even in the summer! The U.S. Olympic ski team has been known to practice there because they can ski year round. Flat Stanley is looking forward to going camping this summer at the United States' deepest and clearest lake in North America, Crater Lake. Flat Stanley also can't wait to pick out his very own Christmas tree this winter because Oregon is also the largest provider of Christmas trees in the entire United States. Flat Stanley already loves Oregon and can't wait to do more exploring when it gets a bid warmer! Thank you so much for sending him to us!!
Flat Stanley has his own snow cave on Mt. Hood
McKenzie, Doss and Flat Stanley
at Timberline Lodge (it's buried under the snow)!

Crater Lake's Wizard Island where Flat Stanley will visit this
summer when the snow melts off the roads.

New York City, New York

cousins wedding. Paul, Henryk (Paul's father) and Stanley took a 830 mile trip from Grand Rapids MI to New York City. We drove through state of Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey into state of New York via interstate 80.

Stanley saw George Washington bridge which leads right into upper
Manhattan in New York City. Flat Stanley took the New York City subway
around the city to see all of the famous sights.

Flast Stanley did a lot of sight seeing while he was in NYC and
received his nickname Flat "Foot" Stanley due to his traveling
endeavors. He saw the "ground zero" memorial and had a picture in
front of the new building being constructed where the towers once
stood.

Then he walked by Boradway Theater, Wallstreet (Stock Exchange) and
saw the famous Bull statue. At this point he was near Battery Park in
lower Manhattan and decided to visit a memorial "world" statue which
once stood in front of twin towers. When they collapsed the "world"
statue was damaged but survived with some damage.

Stanley, Henryk and Paul took a ferry boat to Liberty Island where
Statue of Liberty is located. He then went on the boat further to
Ellis Island where the Immigration Museum is located.
By the end of the day he saw most of the famous landmarks in NYC!

He had a great trip and returned to Grand Rapids, MI on 3.11.12 He has
been spending time with Paul Schab traveling around West Michigan -
today he is in Holland MI where Paul is meeting his customers.
Tomorrow he will be meeting up with Emily and who knows where the
world will take him next! (TBC)

Grand Rapids, Michigan

Hi, my name is Elise Dowling! I was so excited when i found out i would be getting a Flat Stanley in the mail because I am in 9th grade and I remember doing this in 2nd or 3rd grade too. Flat Stanley made by Yugeirys made it safe and sound to Grand Rapids, Michigan a week or so ago. He has settled in well with my family that lives here including my mom, 17 year old brother and my 11 year old dog. We have been having alot of fun together but i keep forgetting my camera when we go out so i'm very sorry i dont have many pictures to show. This is us together in my pink bedroom and Flat Stanley outside of our house:
I took Flat Stanley downtown GR when i went out to dinner with my family one day. Downtown Grand Rapids is not a huge city but a decent size. There are a lot of cool buildings and art pieces you can see like this one shown below. Every fall there is a big art festival called Art Prize and people from all over the United States enter and bring there art pieces like paintings, statues, etc. and many families and people of all ages go downtown and walk around and vote on what art piece they think should win.

During different seasons in the year there are different things to do in Michigan. In the winter is gets very cold and snowy. We got lucky this winter and only had a few big snow falls. The kids here get very happy when sometimes we get snow days. That means there is to much snow on the roads and its to dangerous to go to school in so we get to stay home for the day.  It is really bizarre having 70- 75 degree weather the past week and a half in mid March. Usually it is cold and doesnt start warming up till mid April. During the winter alot of people drive up north Michigan and go skiing or snowboarding. During the summer there are a lot of beaches you can go to and a lot of sports that are played. My family plays golf a lot during the summer and other people play soccer, tennis, run, swim, etc. Many people go pick pumpkins and go apple picking during the fall.
Flat Stanley and my dog, Hogan, have enjoyed spending time together, too.
Thank you for sending Flat Stanley to me and my family in Michigan. We are having a great time!

Flat Stanley comes to Baltimore, MD! (Ms. Tier)

Hello 3rd grader!! Wow, I miss you so much! It's Miss Tier here and I got Jesus Daniel and Nathalia's Stanleys!! Both Stanleys came with me to something called the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland. A harbor is water that has a lot of land around it. You can see the harbor in the picture and the video! Baltimore is very well known for the harbor. You see the dragons in the picture behind me? Those are boats that people can take out and paddle around the harbor!

The water in the harbor is very cold right now because it's been winter. I can't wait until it warms up! In other places I can go swimming, but not in the harbor.

Right now the Stanleys are playing hide and go seek with me..hopefully when I find them I can take them more places!!

Love you guys!

Love, Miss Tier

P.S. - Miss Neal is coming to visit me TOMORROW from Texas! She is going to get on an airplane and fly to see me!

Honolulu, Hawaii

Aloha!!  Adrian's and Angelica's Flat Stanleys arrived a couple of weeks ago and have been especially excited to be here because we are your teacher's family -- her mom Judy, her dad Glen, and her brother Aaron. We live right in the city of Honolulu in a tall apartment building. The Flat Stanleys enjoy going up and down the elevator to get to our home.

As soon as the two Flat Stanleys arrived it rained every day so they couldn't go outside. Instead, they spent their time getting to know our two cats. Angelica's Stanley became good friends with Dusty, and Adrian's became friends with Smokey. The Stanleys have been learning new things about your teacher.  For example, Jessica chose Dusty and Smokey when they were babies and gave them those names.

Finally, we got some "normal" Hawaiian weather - sunshine, warm breezes, and blue sky. We took our two Flat Stanleys for some sight-seeing.  Jessica will know exactly where these places are and can tell you all about them.

Here we are at the Makapuu Lookout.  Behind us you can see Rabbit Island.

Then we went to the Blowhole. We didn't have to wait long before we saw a large spray of water blowing out of a hole in the lava rock. Adrian's Stanley was really surprised to see a whale jumping up out of the ocean.   Unfortunately, Angelica's Stanley (and the camera) missed it.

Next, we went on to Sandy Beach.  The waves were pretty big there and we could see people surfing.  We played in the sand and also became friends with some artists that were painting on the beach.

Well, those are some of our adventures so far.  The Stanleys really want to go swimming.... hmmm...I wonder how that will work....

Vancouver, Washington, USA

We were so happy when Brian's Flat Stanley came to visit. Unfortunately, his envelope got buried on the kitchen table -- Ms. Ensing can tell you about how piled our kitchen table gets because she lived with us one summer. But eventually Flat Stanley called out to us, "I want to see where you live!"

And what a day to explore! Usually in March we have some sunshine and see some flowers starting to bloom. But this day we had snow! Flat Stanley had never seen snow before, so he was very excited. He watched it come down and then he played in it until he got cold.
We have lots of big evergreen trees in our neighborhood and back yard. The green grass was sheltered from the snow by the big trees. You can see the snow on our neighbor's roof and on the grass in between the trees.  We like to go for walks in our neighborhood. We walk past our church, down to a field where we can see the Portland airport, and through some woods and a neighborhood of houses. But this day it was cold so we stayed inside after playing in the snow.

Next Flat Stanley went with us to work. Since we own a toy store, Flat Stanley was pretty excited to go to work.
Stanley told us he likes to read, so he perched on the big bear in the book area and looked at all the books. He had a hard time deciding what to read, but he finally chose one from our shelf of local authors -- people who live right here in Vancouver or across the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon. People often get this Vancouver confused with the one in Canada, but we had the name first.
Then Flat Stanley decided he wanted to try on hats. He could have tried a cowboy hat or a pirate hat, but instead he wanted to be an alien with three eyes. Five eyes, if you include the two on Stanley's face!
Then Stanley went to the front counter to help April ring up customers. Here he's helping her scan a little red car. The scanner he and April are using tells the computer what toy someone's buying, and the computer tells us how much it costs.
Flat Stanley decided he'd like to live in the Calico Critters house, or at least play there for awhile. He and the critters ran up and down the staircase and moved furniture around.
Back at home, Flat Stanley and Luka, our dog, got acquainted. But when Luka tried to chew on Stanley's head, it was time for Stanley to say, "Goodnight everyone!"

Castle Rock, Colorado

Flat Stanley sent by Jesus Miguel arrived in Castle Rock, Colorado last weekend, but we were so busy he didn't get opened until Monday.  Flat Stanley got to go the Ranch View Middle School with Mrs. Myers (Melissa's mom).  It was boring the first 4 days of school because the students were doing TCAP testing and it was very quiet.  On Friday Flat Stanley finally got to do a few things.  First we decided to laminate him so he could be in any kind of weather and right after that he got a powdered sugar donut.  All of a sudden he was really busy and he had to help Mrs. Myers TA(teacher assistant).  First they helped a student tear the butcher paper.  Flat Stanley also got to go the the gym and lift weights.  Then he went to the band room, played the drums, cello, xylophone, and piano.  He was pretty tired and then had to have a Starbucks to get some energy.  There are lots of things to do in Colorado, like ski, sled, fish, hike and enjoy good food.  We sure did have fun with Flat Stanley. He is going to fly back to the Dominican Republic when she goes to visit her daughter.

Hi there! Last week when I went to pick up my
mail there was an envelope form the Dominican
Republic!

When I opened the envelope there was a Flat
Stanley made by Yagiery Maria! We were so
happy to have him come to our house!

We have been having a good time so far with
him. First he went to a symphony with us in
a HUGE concert hall - it is hard to see, but
there were about 300 people in the orchestra
and choirs! We enjoyed it a lot!

Two days later we went to church where we got
to hear the kids praise team sing and play. When
we got there we saw four of Allie's cousins
     participating!

Kathleen was playing the keyboard while her friend
Sabina was playing the bass guitar.
Dexter was playing the electric guitar (Sabina's
brother Alex was playing the drums).
Aaron and Marguerite were vocalists! They were
              so good!!!

Flat Stanley turned out to be a good singer, too!

We will continue to go places, so we will put more pictures on later. Thanks for having Flat Stanley come visit us!

Flat Stanley Travels to Texas

Hello Third Graders at Jarabacoa Christian School,

We are the Gaspard Family and we live in Lake Jackson, Texas, USA. Allie Sawyer is our (Uncle David and Aunt Kim) niece and cousin to Taylor, Ashley and Samantha. Endy Ramon's Flat Stanley arrived at our home March 2 as we were leaving to go out of town to a dance competition in San Antonio, Texas. It was a treat to have Flat Stanley travel with us. Stanley visited the Alamo and the Alamodome where the dance and cheerleading competiton was held.
Flat Stanley at the Alamo
                        A little bit of History
In 1836 Texas went to war with Mexico for Texas's Independence. An important battle took place at a mission called the Alamo. Texas joined the United States in 1845. Flat Stanley stood at the Alamo where the battle took place many years ago.

San Antonio is a meeting spot for many businesses and family vacations. There is a riverwalk with shops and restaurants. There are many shopping malls and a Sea World.
Allie's cousin, Taylor, is holding Stanley in front of the Alamo.

Below is Stanley in front of the Alamodome where the Cheerleading and Dance Nationals were held. Samantha's dance team won National's. Stanley was a great cheerlearder!

Stanley is also seen with the Tower of the Americas in the background. The tower is 750 feet tall. The top of the tower houses a revolving restaurant, lounge, and outdoor observation deck.

Flat Stanley dined with us at Salt Grass Steak House and Budreaux's and he also went shopping at the Rivercenter Mall.

Stanley is now in Lake Jackson, Texas with us and we will blog again in a few days. He is currently playing with Otis (pug), Charlie (mix), and Elli (Austrailian Cattle Dog).

Stanley said to tell all of you that he misses you and might come visit you soon!
